The Edense Heide is a moorland used as a tank practising area for the Dutch army and as a water filtering area. In the weekends it is open to the public for walks of four wheel drive practise. The walking tracs are partly on tank tracts which made a strenous walk.

The Mookerheide is an old moorland on the hills between the rivers Rhine and Maas. It was made by glaciers during the ice age very long ago. It is south of Nijmegen.

This weekend we went to the North of the Netherlands to celebrate the coming of Spring. We stayed in a restored manor House; The Piloersemaborg, of 1633. The weather was stormy ( today Beaufort scale 8-9) , with heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms.
Groningen is an agricultural area. De area ware with stayed , " The high grounds" were cultivated by Medieval cisterian monks. From 1850 till 1950 the area was very prosperous. There are many beautiful churches and very large farms.

Today we made a walk on the dike of the river Maas between the villages Overasselt en Nederasselt. We returned through the polders. Alltogether 16 kilometer.
The river Maas comes from France. The source is about 875 kilometer upstream from Overasselt. The North Sea is 50 kilometer downstream. The people started building dikes along the river in the 13th century. The dikes bursted many times. The last time there was a severe dike burst near Overasselt on the early morning of 31-12-1925. Large parts of the central districts of the Netherlands were flooded. In 1994 there was a near-miss. The dikes have been enlarged since. There are a number of windmills and many restored farms in the area. In Overasselt is the postmill " Zeldenrust" , built in 1736 in Geertruidenberg en moved to Overasselt in 1890 en in Nederasselt is the postmill " Maasmolen" from 1741.
